Is Keto Ice Cream Good For You?
At Mobile Metcon, we offer services around Nutrition and one of the main question that we encounter frequently is whether certain foods are good for you. Well, the answer is very simple - it depends.
Here's an example of a real client asking whether keto ice cream is good for you and here's our response, check it out!
Carl: What are your thoughts on keto ice cream? Are they healthy for you? Is it okay to eat in moderation?
Mobile Metcon: Hey Carl! Great question! Before we answer that question, let's define what the "Keto Diet" is.
The Keto diet is essentially high fat, low carbs diet. "Diets" in general is not a long term thing. It is a goal you are trying to achieve and once you achieve it, that "diet" is done. So Keto, is a very effective diet (if done properly)... you have to literally consume no carbs and get your body into this thing called "ketosis". Ketosis is when your body doesn't have any carbohydrates to burn and instead, it looks for the next source of energy to burn which is fat. So people that go on the "keto" diets burn fat quickly HOWEVER doing this long term is unhealthy therefore it is only a short term diet/goal achieving thing. Make sense?
Okay let's go back to Keto ice cream.
What's the difference between Keto ice cream and regular ice cream?
Keto ice cream... ding ding is exactly what it is, high in fat, low in carbs whereas regular ice cream has fat and is high in carbs... there's also a sh*tload of added sugar in regular ice cream. Keto ice cream is low in sugar thanks to sugar substitutes...
If you literally eat every food in the world "in moderation"... it's probably fine for you.
In a keto diet, you can eat all the bacon you want and it's still considered keto... but is it healthy? Probably not.
Is keto ice cream healthier than regular ice cream... It probably is!
So does that mean I can eat all the keto ice cream I want?... Probably not a good idea.
Can I eat in moderation? Of course!
Will it help me lose weight... ooh, it depends. What else are we eating? Will we be on a keto diet to put our body in ketosis or are we still consuming rice, noodles, etc.?
Does that make sense?

So there you have it! Simple answer right?
At Mobile Metcon, we take an iterative approach to "dieting". We never jump into the deep end and start counting calories and macros - that's a turn off, not to mention information overload. We evaluate our athlete's consumption and analyze their thoughts first on what they think is going right (or wrong) and we impose weekly challenges so that we learn how to rebuild a good relationship with food again.

Fitness is a lifestyle, not a goal.
